The Best of Dorothy Love Coates & the Original Gospel Harmonettes, Vols 1-2
Dorothy Love Coates & the Gospel Harmonettes
Specialty
Release Date: April 17, 1991
CD Length: 63'35" In mid-40s, a gospel group "Harmoneers" was formed, featuring Dorothy Love Coates of Birmingham, Alabama. The group would later rename itself the Gospel Harmonettes and reach the contract with RCA records.
Coates' singing style was unique back then since it sounded as she would hurt her voice by shouting. She was a true singing preacher. Coates was also an activist to oppose recial segregation back in late 50s and early 60s.
This is a combination of the two 12-song "Best of..." albums released in the alte 60s. The 24 best hits include the group's debut song "I'm sealed", "Get away Jordan", "99 and a Half" , "(You Can't Hurry God) He's Right on Time", and more.
