| Customer Reviews:
Long overdue January 2, 2009 A very scholarly and balanced work. Solid assesment of the state of music in the Catholic Church, with great suggestions for making music an intrinsic part of the Liturgy, not a distraction from it. In my opinion, there is no greater expert in America on Liturgical Music, especially as applies to the Holy Mass. Every Priest, Bishop, Seminarian, and Music Minister in the world who can read English should have this book. Dr. Schaefer does a wonderful job of making a scholarly "textbook" very readable. There are great recorded examples available on a website (referred to at appropriate places in the book). It is obvious that this is a labor of love, and this love of the Church and its Liturgy shines through. This is a must read that is decades overdue.
