"Then Sings My Soul" is a unique presentation which offers a historical synopsis of many of the most popular hymns of all time. It is a book you can read cover to cover or just pick up and open any page and be captivated. This would make a wonderful gift for anyone who loves the music,poetry and spirituality of these well know hymns.

My husband got me this set for Christmas. Then Sings My Soul volumes 1 and 2. I think the books themselves are beautiful. And the hymn stories are interesting and inspirational. I do our church bulletin and it is nice to include a story on the hymns we are singing. I would recommend these books as a great resource on hymns.

I am a lover of the old Hymns that are being replaced by praise songs which are wonderful however I prefer the olds hymns. This book gives you the back ground as to why it was written. I purchased from Amazon.com because the price including s & h was lower than in the stores. Will order again.
Good starting resource December 21, 2007
As a hospice chaplain, I have used this book to share the story behind the music and to have a resource to sing to the patients I work with...I have two disappointments with the book 1) some of the lyrics are not the same that one may be used to singing (obviously the author had to choose) 2) the stories associated with the hymn are not uniform - some are historical, some contain the author's reflections (which aren't bad, but I would rather just have the story and offer my own reflections)....
