Product Description The Ultimate Church Sound Operator's Handbook is written to specifically address the concerns and needs of the sound person who serves ministries and churches. The modern church uses many of the same presentation tools that have become common in television, movies, and concerts, placing a unique set of technical expectations on its eager, willing, and primarily volunteer force. This comprehensive handbook blends the relational and technical aspects of church sound in a straightforward and easy-to-understand manner. The Ultimate Church Sound Operator's Handbook will provide a leg-up to church sound operators who want to do a great job but need the perfect tool - created specifically for them - to gain the knowledge needed to excel and succeed.

Beginning to End Church Sound Engineering September 8, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am the Pastor of a Small Church and have found the training of people for sound engineering within the Church context demanding and difficult, with this book 'The Ultimate Church Sound Operator's Handbook' it is making it easier to train and develop new Sound Engineers. I have started to use this book as a text book for all my new Sound Engineers.
This book not only covers the advanced technical skills required, covering each topic in-depth but also speaks about the Christian Character that is required for an excellent Church Sound Engineer.
The Section on Generations Sound is excellent giving the sound engineer a clearer understanding of the issues relating sound including key frequencies that affect different age groups
I suspect that even for a person outside of the Church Context would find this book to be a valuable resource of technical information, particularly for anybody wishing to excel in sound engineering.
Sound engineering key principles that are found in the modern Church are found everywhere, from Small School Halls to Large Auditoriums seating thousands.
Again I wholeheartedly recommend this book. Pastor Keith Alchin NorthHaven Christian Outreach Centre. Warnervale NSW Australia
The Ultimate Church Sound Operator's Handbook June 5, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Not everyone who runs a CHURCH sound system is of the same spiritual persuasion. It would be a bit offensive to have to read the first three chapters of Christian Proselytizing if you are not Christian. This was to be a book about Sound Operations, not what your religious orientations are. Likewise, the arm-chair physchology could be limited to a sentence or two rather than lengthy paragraphs. These concepts are certainly a part of our lives in many situations, but please, this is to be about SOUND SYSTEMS! I was about to return the book, but as I examined it a bit further I did find some useful information. Much of the information was surface and it would have been nice had Mr. Gibson used the space proselytizing and psychologizing to give a few more details and REAL TIME examples of the concepts he was addressing. I am hoping to find a FEW more tid-bits of useful information in the book, but I am dissappointed that so many very critical aspects of sound management were treated in a superficial manner. It was certainly not worth the $40.00 paid for the book.
As complete as it gets! April 14, 2008 2 out of 8 found this review helpful
I am the sound engineer at a small Baptist church. My background is R&R drummer and sound engineer at other larger churches. This book not only taught me more about sound, but helped me apply the knowledge to the entire church family. There's as much about attitude as there is about amplitude. This truly is the 'ultimate' church sound operator's handbook. It's relatively cheap, too.
Excellent overview with enough attention to detail February 16, 2008 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
Wonderful book with a spiritual premise that quality sound is a God thing. Great book to give any of your new up and coming sound techs, especially those with limited knowledge. Also a great book to give to musicians on the worship team to assist them in understanding what is happening behind the board, and tips on how they can help the sound techs set up or tear down. I really appreciated the spiritual focus of the book.
This book will fit very nicely in your audio resource library. February 10, 2008 0 out of 6 found this review helpful
This book is a splendid effort to put a treasure-trove of information into the hands of every day people who haven't made a life career out of audio engineering. Let there be no mistake, Gibson is more than qualified to speak on any number of topics related to the audio industry both as a master musician and seasoned professional in the audio industry. Don't take my word for it, do a search right here on Amazon and you'll score numerous publications by Gibson including the latest Ultimate Church Sound Operator's Handbook. His S.M.A.R.T. Guide series are 5 books with each book focusing on topics ranging for Mixing and Mastering, Becoming a Successful Producer / Sound engineer, Mixers, Signal Processors, Microphones, Digital Recording and Software Plug-ins. His Sound Advice series include books on Recording and Mixing Drums, Recording and Mixing Vocals, Recording and Mixing Guitars and Recording and Mixing using Compressors, Limiters, Expanders and Gates. Other publications include; The Ultimate Live Sound Operator's Handbook and The Audio Pro Home Recording Course Volumes1, 2 &3. I won't go into a lot of detail unpacking all the vital information you'll find in the Ultimate Church Sound Operator's Handbook and the sound/visual examples included on the DVD. Suffice it to say if you are working in a sound ministry environment, you realize it's just as much relational as it is technical. This book addresses the importance of the relational dynamic right from the start. If you're the kind of person who has worked in a secular sound environment and now find yourself working in a sound ministry environment or visa versa, this book will fit very nicely in your audio resource library.
