A beautiful film! February 5, 2008
This is a beautiful 30-minute film covering the events in the book of Ruth. You almost feel that the claymation characters are real people; the emotions are portrayed so well. The "costuming" is perfect, and it seems as if you are really looking through a window into Bible times. The music is beautiful, too. The film gets the story right and it portrays the theme of caring for the outsider admirably. I'll be using this in our rotational Sunday School, and I think it will be well received by all ages. I was very pleased with this purchase!
The biblical story of Ruth in claymation February 13, 2007

This is an excellent 25-minute animated film of the book of Ruth. It's quite faithful to the biblical account, and since the book of Ruth is so short, the story didn't need to be condensed. The clay animation is well done, and I think both children and adults would enjoy this film.

I am really surprised how good this DVD is! It is super cute, yet it is also super faithful to the Bible scriptures that the story is taken from!
It looks exactly like the claymation used for such Christmas classics as RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER and LITTLE DRUMMER BOY!
I wish that every Bible DVD stayed as close to scripture as this little DVD does! The story of Ruth is short enough to fit into a 30 minute DVD. Other DVDs in this TESTAMENT series are accurate to scripture, but they must edit out some scripure to fit into the 30 minute format. What IS there is usually VERY good, though!
There are about 10 of these Bible stories from the 1990's, from a Russian company working with some British people, made for an English speaking audience. Only three are claymation. There is also a claymation of ABRAHAM, I don't recall the name of the third claymation, as I write this, sorry.
The others in the TESTAMENT series are cartoon animations using vastly different drawing styles. Most all of these are SUPER faithful to scripture and deeper theology! A few times they waste running time with a story framing device, such as having contemporary people recall the Bible story, before they switch to the actual Bible story.
If you have considered buying this, then DO SO IMMEDIATELY! You will not be disappointed, and you will get a great teaching tool for kids and anybody who can enjoy a cute claymation TV show.

It is short, only 30 minutes, but it follows the story of Ruth according to the scriptures. I show this to my Bible History Class (teenagers 15-18 year olds) and they really like it. Even after 8 showings - I still like it.
