Too bad this theatrical paws you in from the first frame with clever characters, memorable music, and a pulled-together plot, because if you're a dyed-in-the-fur Tom and Jerry fan, your first inclination is to flee the set. Offending old-schoolers in a late-Bewitched new-Darren sense is the dialogue--not only do Tom and Jerry speak, they're talking to each other. Worse, the former combatants cultivate a camaraderie. Instead of clobbering each other with mallets, the cat and mouse duo dig in, together, to rescue a runaway. Returning Robyn to her dad requires outfoxing Aunt Figg, the girl's money-grubbing guardian, and a cadre of scheming animal and kid catchers. A little tail-twitching mousetrap action toward the end is the tender vittle tossed to the old crowd in what's otherwise a declawed but undeniably entertaining chase-a-thon. Put it on for kids 4 and up and help forge a kinder, gentler Tom and Jerry generation. --Tammy La Gorce

    2 out of 5 stars Disapointed   October 21, 2008
I grew up on Tom & Jerry and now my nephew loves the Saturday morning reruns. I came looking on Amazon to get some of the dvd's for him, I was so excited when I saw they have a movie. When we watched the movie we both found it quite creepy, it was nothing like the cartoon. We were looking forward to funny cat and mouse chases instead we got Tom and Jerry in a musical with songs I wouldn't condiser appropriate for young children.

    2 out of 5 stars Excelsior?   October 2, 2008
Seems like this film was produced with good intentions, but the result isn't very entertaining. Tom and Jerry lose their home, and after a few minutes of Tom chasing Jerry through the city, each realize the other can talk, and become friends. Then they start singing mediocre songs. The new "Friends 'til the End" team up to help a runaway girl reunite with her father and defend her against a mean aunt. What kept me from completely regretting paying the DVD rental price was the inclusion of two classic cartoon shorts, "Just Ducky" and "The Invisible Mouse."

4 out of 5 stars Not the typical Tom & Jerry.   August 9, 2008
I've read some of the reviews about this movie and although, from an adult point of view I agree with them, I have to give this movie a 4 star due to the fact that I view movies like this through my children's eyes.

My children love Tom & Jerry and this movie, however different, was a movie they love as well as the cartoons on TV. The first thing I heard upon watching was: "They talk!" That did it for them. They LOVE the movie and watch it again and again. If a movie does that, then it's a great one. And it also has a heart felt meaning in the end.

Remember when you watch this movie to view it from a child's perspective and suddenly you'll love it too!

5 out of 5 stars Great entertainer   July 31, 2008
I bought this for my granddaughter to watch on a road trip. She loves Tom and Jerry...they're her favorite! Great entertainment!

1 out of 5 stars disappointed Tom & Jerry fan...   December 4, 2007
Too much song & dance in this...I like the original cartoons so much better... This involves tons of other "characters" that aren't even interesting...Sorry to waste money on it... Stick with "Whiskers Away" if you like the REAL Tom & Jerry cartoons
