5 out of 5 stars One of the best magazines ever   January 4, 2008

A friend of mine told me about this magazine about three years ago and I've been an subscriber ever since. I've even bought subscriptions for others a few times as gifts. This magazine has great content and articles by taking an very thought-provoking and "real" approach to a number of cultural and spiritual issues. I would highly recommend this to the 20-35 age group, either Christians or just anyone interested in a Christian perspective to cultural issues. One of my favorite things about this mag other than the content is that it's not packed full of ads to sift through. There seem to be far fewer ads than other magazines I read, and the ads they do have are well done and actually interesting to me.

I would also HIGHLY recommend the weekly Relevant podcast, available for free through iTunes.

    2 out of 5 stars I'M RELEVANT! REALLY I AM!! I'M SO RELEVANT!!!   June 23, 2006

Please read Naomi Jakobs' review for Relevant Magazine below. It captures so brilliantly and eloquently the heart of the Christian 'post-modern' kick. If you have to go out of your way to claim you're a celebrity, then you simply aren't a celebrity (Take "Fitness Celebrity" John Basedow for example). In the same way, if you have go out of your way to claim that the Post-modern Evangelical movement is relevant, then you're claim for relevancy is simply not credible. The Christian church has certainly played a vastly significant role in the past 2000 years. However pop-culturalizing Evangelical Christianity isn't causing it to be any more relevant than it was when Sandi Patty or Carmen ruled the Christian top 40. Does the fact that some Christians enjoy the latest musical fads make the concept of accepting a human blood-sacrifice for the pardon of sins more palatable?

3 out of 5 stars Not Quite Relevant Yet   May 17, 2006

Is this an interesting magazine for Christians, as well as a good information source about movies and music?

    Yes.

I was exceptionally excited to see a sample subscription arrive at my doorstep, I read it feverishly. The topics they cover are interesting and cool, and the photography and design is awesome. The bands they interview are the bands I listen to--and they do a heck of a job at it! I love reading their interviews, they're extremely informative and interesting.

Is this magazine relevant to the lives of the Christian youth, of whom I am one?

    No.

As I read through the magazine after my initial hopping around through the various movie reviews and artist interviews, I decided to move onto the more theological stuff, the columnists. I could not have been more disappointed. What I read was wishy-washy Christianity. They take a stand for nothing, most of the articles either being about tolerance or some other "important" issue. Their theology is far from relevant in today's youth. Even an on suicide how we should remember that we're made in God's image in the January/February issue, came across as unconvincing, and was badly edited at best.

If the editors of this magazine want to claim Relevancy, then they need to push a message other than tolerancy and "understanding". And I'm not saying these aren't bad ideas. I'm simply saying that there are more important things to be thinking about in a world falling apart at the seems.

5 out of 5 stars Hands down the best modern day Christian reading material today   April 17, 2006

Growing up in the church, I've received a lot of Christian magazines, from in depth analysis on Scripture, to Q&A on highschool drama help, but all have fallen short of what young Christians today are looking for. I followed Relevant magazine before they released their 1st magazine and kept up with the amazing articles online. I was very excited for the debut of a magazine that made God relevant to specific everyday life decisions and made God seem ever more practical in the way we construct our lifestyles. God has obviously done great things with this staff and is still working. Their podcast is also great and really demonstrates the character of today's young christian thinkers who are excited in their faith and are willing to show it. They bring a lot to hope and pray for for the Christians living in a culture that denies Christ. I'm not a twentysomething quite yet, but the message of Relevant is important which is: put away with your indifference and go out and make a mark on culture for the glory of God.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing publication   March 23, 2006

I wish I could give this magazine 6 stars. Finally, an honest magazine for Christians. I am the target demographic, so I understand the style does not appeal to all, but the content can easily relate to anyone who is willing to get past their pre-concieved religious notions and desire Biblical truth. I sometimes get sick of the 'relevant' move because it frequently becomes used as an excuse for Christians to abuse their freedom as believers, but Relevant does a fantastic job of giving a balanced look at relevant faith. I don't always agree with every article, but I appreciate the open, honest, and sometimes opposing views. It is not a one-sided, or single minded publication. I wish I could afford to get a subscription for all the Christians I know.
