    Editorial Reviews:

    Product Description
The DVP-NS57P/S DVD player features Precision Cinema Progressive technology, providing sharper images for a better viewing experience. Unlike other DVD players that detect image changes at the Scan line level-Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive (PCP) system detects them at the Pixel level. This results in images closer to the original source data, because separate, optimized algorithms are used to handle the differing Pixel behavior. Separate algorithms are also used to process the moving and still parts of an image, resulting in sharp backgrounds with moving objects that are free from motion artifacts. Sony's Precision Drive III mechanism is also included, which helps maximize the performance of DVD collections by reading data even on some physically "warped" discs. Other benefits include fast/slow playback with sound, and custom parental control.

    4 out of 5 stars A Really Sweet Player   December 1, 2008
I purchased this as a replacement for a cheaper brand player at our church. We have used it several times since and it is easy to operate and plays beautifully! I love Sony. It's onscreen menu is easy to understand and user friendly. The buttons on the remote are a bit small, but not too bad.

    4 out of 5 stars looks great/works great   November 26, 2008
i am very happy with this product! it is thin enough that it doesnt take up a lot of room and matches my silver small flatscreen!

3 out of 5 stars Disposable DVD player   November 18, 2008
This DVD player works great while it is working. The price is a good indication of it's true quality.

Mine failed after exactly one year and three days.

    Treat this one as disposable.

2 out of 5 stars Spend the extra 25 dollars for the more expensive sony dvd player   October 19, 2008
The player arrived with the dvd in the open position and it would not work when hooked up. The workmanship is pretty shoddy. I returned it to amazon and got a full refund. I then purchased the upconverting dvd by sony on amazon and am very pleased with the quality and the picture.

5 out of 5 stars High Quality Low Price   October 13, 2008
I could not be more satisfied with this DVD Player. I admit that I had rather low expectations due to the price. I've owned a couple of DVD players in this price range and they were simply mediocre but I needed a DVD player for my office and didn't see a need for anything too high end. Boy, was I surprised when hooked this baby up!

This is where I have my biggest complaint - the lack of video cables. I received a set of audio cable (the traditional red/white ones) but there was nothing in the box for video! Whether this was intended or not, it was very frustrating. If this was intentional, why not throw in at least a simple yellow composite cable? Otherwise, why include any cables at all? I ended up digging around and I was able to find some old component cables.

Once you have it all hooked up, however, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. The picture quality greatly surpasses any DVD player with similar features in this price range. There's no noticeable blurring during frantic action scenes unlike similarly priced DVD players. Colors are bright and vivid. Sound quality is excellent

This is a high quality unit that greatly surpassed my expectations. I don't think you could find anything remotely close to it in this price range. Build quality is high, whisper quiet if not silent while operating and picture quality is phenomenal.
