    Product Description

This well loved writer effectively uses his personal mistakes to illustrate riveting truths about repentance and forgiveness. As he focuses on the true authority of God, he is careful to explain by example the important difference between submission and obedience.

The same struggle with divine authority is also represented through the lives of John the Baptist, the Apostle Paul, and other biblical figures. An especially helpful book for Christians who want to develop a serious pursuit of God.

5 out of 5 stars Extremely Illuminating   November 25, 2008
I laughed when I read the title "Doctrine of Demons" from one of the reviewers. This is not breathed of Satan. Bevere draws all of his arguments from the Bible. It is controversial topics because of the democratic, PC, cynical, American, etc. atmosphere we live in. The Bible is controversial and counter-culture when properly applied. If God's word is in you than you have the gift of discernment and I discern that this is a great book but you may discern otherwise. It's a good read in my opinion.

5 out of 5 stars Great book on Biblical Authority.   November 25, 2008
I'm not surprised this book is controversial----in our modern society, obedience, and submission to authority, is nearly always so. In this day & age, it is *SO* much more popular, to just go your own way... In short, to "be your own god." Though they rarely use such terminology, those who refuse to obey & submit to authority, are simply trying to make themselves equal with God----which is *EXACTLY* what lucifer (ie, satan) tried to do, and he was thrown out of heaven as quick as lightening.

I've seen a number of these comments, which reflect an ignorance of Bevere's book. For example, *NOWHERE* does Bevere tell us to obey man, over God. (contrary to what some say here) As nearly as I can tell, this book is very accurate Biblically, and I would encourage anyone who reads it, to look up every scripture, if they don't know them.
This book is not *FUN*, anymore than the Holy Spirit's conviction of sin is, but, I do believe it is accurate, and shows the *TRUTH.* If you're looking for TRUTH, read it. If you have issues, or questions (afterwards) about abusive authority, I *HIGHLY* recommend Bevere's DVD/book on Unfair Treatment. Again, *NOT* fun, but, completely accurate with God's Word. Just remember, God's not interested in our comfort, as much as He is our *CHARACTER*.

5 out of 5 stars It doesn't really get any better   November 12, 2008

This was an EXCELLENT book on authority, answering every question you could possibly have-- with good, moderated principles (no extremism to be found), good illustrations and clear answers. It is excellent for people of all ages-- but especially for young people. I've read it and used it often. It brings clarity to many "gray areas" and uses sound Biblical teaching.

1 out of 5 stars A Handbook For Controling and Manipulating YOUR Flock.   October 20, 2008
5 out of 5 found this review helpful

If you are a pastor loosing control of your flock, this is the book for you. This author has skillfully twisted scripture to prove that the blessing we receive from God is proportional to the honor we give to church leaders. (see page 122)

According to the author, Hannah was blessed by the words of Eli because she responded to his incorrect assessment with respect and honor. (pages 113-115) I would suggest it was her submission to God, not Eli, that initiated the blessing. (1 Sam.1:9-20) Read Hannah's prayer in 1Sam.2 She knew where her blessing came from and she doesn't mention Eli.

The author uses Matt.10:40-42 to establish the flow of Godly Authority. According to page 119, the flow of authority is: 1.Father(GOD) > 2.Jesus > 3.Prophets(1 of the fivefold ministry gifts) > 4.Righteous Men > 5.Babes(infant believers). This is a very convenient model for a controlling leader who wants to place him or her self over believers. I thought Jesus was the head of the body, the true Bishop of the Church. Wasn't the curtain torn when Jesus died on the cross? Wake up! We are the priesthood of believers, not believers under the priest's hood!

I encourage you to read 1John2:27 before reading this book. Also consider Frank Viola's book "Reimagining Church" to help distinguish between the traditions of men and the doctrines of God.

I bought this book because it was endorsed by our pastor. He read some and I was really interested. I didn't regret that I bought this book because it is really powerful. I love the book and I learned a lot from it.
