    5 out of 5 stars A valuable resource!   May 30, 2006

I've had "Foundations of Pentecostal Theology" for about a year now. There have been quite a few times over the past 12 months where I've turned to it for a succinct, clear summary of various pentecostal/interdenominational views. Each time I've been impressed how fair and thorough Van Cleave and Duffield are in this work. Even if you don't agree with their viewpoints, you will admit that they've done their homework! I especially liked their treatment of "Once Saved Always Saved," which is a voice of reason in an emotionally charged issue.

    5 out of 5 stars A Great Study Help   October 1, 2005

This book is a great help for anyone who really wants to dig deeper in the bible studies. You don't have to be a college student to use or enjoy this book. Anyone with a desire to study God's word can benefit from this book.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent book on Pentecostal theology   December 31, 2004

For years this book was one of the very precious few on Pentecostal theology available. Unfortunately Pentecostals were amazingly slow to put their distinctive theology into a comprehensive work. That has changed now and you can find works from Pentecostal scholars on theology and doctrine but it is a relatively recent development.

This book, when it could be found, filled a great role for Bible students and ministers for studying doctrine. Twenty years ago I could find nothing else like it. The AG, CoG, nor even my own fellowship, the PHC, had anything of the sort. Because there was no such work available the authors, who were teachers in a Foursquare Bible College, put this work together.

Even now this book is an excellent study of the major doctrines of the Pentecostal movement (non-Weslyan variety). It is written in a very ordered and structured way and teachers will find that helpful. The book reads very well considering it is a theology book. It flows well. I can't imagine why any of the previous reviewers would have found such problems with this book. If you are a Pentecostal or Charismatic minister/teacher/preacher and you can find a copy of this book it needs to be in your library.

1 out of 5 stars Foundations of Pentecostal Theology, practical   January 3, 2004

I am in the process of reading this book and dispite all the other reviews, it amazes me how super-spiritual everyone seems to be. I am a lay preacher and I find this book gets down to the bones of theological understanding, in terms the average person can understand. For everyone who thinks just being a believer is enough, you haven't had to witness to very many unbelievers if you think you don't need a good understanding of what you believe. I find this book a good conservative view of what I believe and have experienced through my Christian walk and helps to cut off the fleshy stuff that takes away from God's glory in the Spirit Filled(Pentecostal) world. Give these men some credit for a good practical book. To bad it's out of print. Some modern Theologians could use a good book like this.

3 out of 5 stars To Understand Pentacostal Theology   September 9, 2003

This book was written to understand basic and somewhat theological views of Pentacostalism. It is recommended reading to those who want to know about Pentacostals and for those who are Pentacostals and want to know more about their doctrine.

I must of course disagree with denominational doctrine no matter the denomination since Christ did not set up denominations. So long as we have denominational walls up we will not be able to be the Church Christ intended us to be.

I find that to many theological doctrines ruin the Word of God since everyone has their own belief.

In Closing the book was good and used in my Bible School Class however as long as all churches have their own beleif and hold to it other then going to the Word of God we wont live up to the fullness of Christs True Church.
