Product Description One study Bible doesn't fit all, so Oxford publishes Catholic editions to suit the needs of new and seasoned Scripture students alike. The Personal Study Edition is ideal for the beginners, whether it's used within the context of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults or other such parish-based scripture education programs. It provides a wealth of background information in a single volume that informs readers without overwhelming them. The Second Edition features all new callouts in the biblical text, a revised Reading Guide and enlarged section introductions and introductory essays on topics such as how to read the Bible. The Questions for Discussion that follow each book's section in the Reading Guide are newly revised and expanded. They focus on these themes: Group Sharing/Discussion, In Our Lives, and Individual/Personal Reflection/Action. In addition, there's a glossary to terms that may be unfamiliar to some readers, the Sunday and weekday lectionary readings, a select NAB concordance, and an indexed section of New Oxford Bible Maps.

Execellent Study Resource October 25, 2008 Our church is doing The Great Bible Adventure by Jeff Cavens and this requires a good study Bible; this particular edition is right on the mark.
good combination of reading guide and bible June 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
i like many features about this book
1. 500 page reading guide is very good 2. paper quality is very good 3. hardback quality is very good 4. sewn binding is good 5. font size is good 6. NAB translation has book summaries & footnotes 7. good value for $$$
poor translation with worse footnotes May 31, 2007 11 out of 17 found this review helpful
The NAB is a poor translation. The language is bland, with far too much inclusive language. The footnotes are heterodox, with far too much reliance on the "historical-critical" method. The RSV is a much better translation, which also keeps the footnotes to a minimum. I recommend that avoidance of the NAB. Buy an RSV instead if you are looking for an easy-to-read yet literal translation of the Bible.
