Amazon.com Review The Book is, of course, the Bible. Rather than offering a straightforward interpretation of the original Greek and Hebrew texts, Tyndale House Publishers has assembled an easy-to-reference volume, making it accessible to newcomers as well as scholars. In the front section, readers will find a selection of excerpts that speak to life's major issues and concerns, such as "Anger," "Discouragement," "Fear," and "Loneliness." The Book also includes excerpts that speak to relationships, such as love, friends, marriage, and parenthood. An opening section titled "Where Can I Find It?" lists where to locate favorite Bible stories, including "The Prodigal Son" and "The Golden Rule." It even has a reference section devoted to "Great Chapters from the Book," citing chapters such as "A Time for Everything," and "The Holy Spirit Comes." This is one of the most highly recommended and user-friendly bibles available.

Only one other critical review?!!!! July 3, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I can't believe that this is the only review that doesn't give five stars! (I'm not counting the violently anti-Christian idiot who had problems with the actual Bible, not the translation.) This is absolutely the most stupid-sounding translation of the Bible that I have ever read; they went way too far in their attempts to make it readable. It's full of unnecessary exclamation points, for one thing. (Example: "Don't be afraid!" he said. "I bring you good news of great joy for everyone! The Savior-yes, the Messiah, the Lord-has been born tonight in Bethlehem the city of David! And this is how you will recognize him: You will find a baby lying in a manger, wrapped snugly in strips of cloth!-Luke 2:10-12) See what I mean? That passage also demonstrates how thorougly this translation strips the Bible of its literary beauty. (If you watch "A Charlie Brown Christmas," you can hear how this passage was treated in the King James Version; it's absolutely beautiful! Of course, if you have a King James Bible, you could just read that.) If you want a contemporary-language bible, get The Message. It's not quite as gorgeous as the KJV, but it is way more readable, and it conveys more emotion than any other translation I know. Oh, and if the violently anti-Christian idiot that I mentioned is reading this, I want to say something to them: If the best thing that you can think of doing is to go online and tell a bunch of Christians, Jews, and Muslims that they're all psycho murderers, maybe you need a therapist.
millions died by the hand of this book...toilet paper June 20, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
brainwashing tool of the ages....as bad as the koran and torah...a book full of unoriginality, death, famine, rape, sexism, telling you to kill anyone who doesn't believe...grow up..if you're over 12 and take this seriously..you need a therapist..
I am a believer April 28, 2008 The Bible. It can be confusing, and hard to read because the language. I just cannot read a King James version with ease, it is like reading Shakespeare. This is a very easy to read version. I like the simplicity. I am sure Bible scholars will find points they don't agree with, but for this guy I like this book. It even uses the word stupid in Proverbs.
The hardcover is great, I wore out my last "The Book" with the softcover, and this one is very nice. It opened fully even brand new.
Amazing Translation February 8, 2008 I highly recommend "The Book" to any serious or casual student of the Bible. "The Book" IS the Bible. I have used my copy for years, often giving copies of it as gifts. "The Book" uses modern expressions, patterns, and speech idioms that make the books of the Old and New Testaments more easily understood. Particularly helpful are the introductions to each book of the Testaments, where the author, date, content, and theme of each is provided. Additionally, it references parts of the Bible that deal with specific life concerns, such as fear, anger, frustration, pain, guilt, patience, and healing. Also, I would recommend the hard-cover edition which is much more durable than the soft-cover option.
