Christians who have longed for a more readable literal Bible translation will find much to praise in the English Standard Version. The ESV's translation team of over 100 members has admirably attempted to preserve the stylistic variety of biblical authorship and ease of reading (at the eighth-grade level) despite the word-for-word translation, which historically has resulted in a choppier text flow. Bible study aficionados will appreciate the short introductions to each book, an extensive center column cross-reference system, full-color maps, and a 14,500-entry concordance. Great size that I can carry with me anywhere, and I love the quality of the cover. The color and detail are great.
ESV Classic Study Bible November 17, 2008
I really enjoying this bible translation, and it also contains a solid accordance. I would reccomend this bible to anyone.
Accurate and Attractive October 5, 2008
The ESV seems to be a very accurate translation. It does not always read like contemporary English, but sometimes that's an advantage because it makes one stop and think about what one is reading. I really appreciate the way Crossway has some beautiful covers for these Bibles. I'd gotten tired of black and burgundy!

I love the little Bible and its color. The print is very small so wouldn't advise for the elderly, but is wonderful to fit in the purse or pocket. Very nice quality.

What a strange publication! The doctored version of the RSV with the Greek text in the order of the English words. I cannot see how this book can really benefit anyone other than a complete amateur. But... the grammatical information for the Greek text really is quite useful. The transliteration is handy for those too lazy to learn the Greek alphabet. Strong's numbers might be useful to some. Maybe the biggest blow is the fact that the CD-ROM is only for Windows. We Mac users are once again left in the cold.
For those seriously interested in the Greek text, I would suggest purchasing an copy of The New Greek English Interlinear NT by Brown and Comfort together with a good dictionary. If your Greek is that bad, you certainly will not need the grammatical information.
For those serious about their study, try the Nestle-Aland Greek-English New Testament - the Novum Testamentum Graece together with the real RSV and sumptuous notes.
By all means purchase this book. It will certainly impress your friends if it is placed on the coffee table.
