German Bible- Modified for Understandable Reading August 29, 2008 This version of the German Bible has been modified from the original Martin Luther translation to read more up-to-date for today's German language. It has all 66 books from the OT and NT and is quite understandible. It could be compared to our NIV being modified from the original Old King James Version. Good translation for decent price.
GUTE NACHRICHT BIBEL March 31, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
THIS WAS FOR MY NEFPHEW WHO IS TAKING GERMAN IN SCHOOL. HE WAS VERY EXCITED TO GET IT.
Not quite what I expected, but I like it February 21, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
First, I have no idea how the other translations stack up against this one, but this seems to be a good translation in modern German, which is great for people (like me) who are studying the language and want both a good Bible and an up to date vocabulary. The actual format of the Bible surprised me a little bit-I've always been around the traditional, leather/bonded leather Bibles with "Holy Bible" in gold/silver lettering across the front. This Bible has a green hardcover and looks more like a book than what I'm used to, but after I got used to it I found I liked it just as well, because it protects the pages and is just generally sturdier. The writing is a good, readable size-not large or bold print, but not tiny like some Bibles I've seen. Overall a good Bible I would recommend.
Good for German Learners, Not Much for Biblical Study November 21, 2006 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
This Gute Nachricht translation is great for students learning German since the language is modern and very clear. Unfortunately, this means the bibeltext is watered down into speech that is way too simple for serious study. Lots of meaning and beauty is sacrificed to make it more readable. A good example of this would be the 'Vaterunser', where "unser tagliches brot" becomes "alles, dass wir zu leben brauchen." For a German speaker serious about reading the Bibel, I must recommend Luthers, or perhaps the Einheitsubersetzung. For students of German, this Gute Nachricht Bibel is excellent reading practice. It is a large enough book to allow for a nice typeface that is easy on the eyes. The book itself is well bound and has nice cream colored pages that are not too thin.
A convenient size for taking with you. April 24, 2005 17 out of 18 found this review helpful
This is a nice size volume to carry for traveling. There is a nice concise Bible encyclopedia in the back of the volume that goes a bit deeper than some similar sized Bible dictionaries. I do know a veteran German pastor who does not like Die Gute Nachricht as a translation at all, but that is probably a matter of personal preference. It has a different feel than the 1984 Luther text, but it is good, too.
