5 out of 5 stars Amazing Story of an Amazing Man   April 16, 2008
Michael English is not a man that claims to be perfect, strong, or without a past. He is, however, a man that will tell you that the only thing that saved him is Jesus Christ. He's brutally honest in telling how he fell and equally honest in illustrating how he got back up again.

He takes the blame when it's deserved (I think he was incredibly respectful of Lisa. He really realizes that she was a victim) and he gives credit where it's due (Topper Council, Bill Gaither, Michael W. Smith).

It's an excellent read from a very strong man with an ever-growing faith. I've read it twice and get something new out of it each time. Everyone...and I mean everyone...can relate to Michael's story.

    xoxo

3 out of 5 stars What A Surprise This Book Was   March 29, 2008

All I knew about was Michael English's infidelity and downfall in the Christian music world. I figured that was what the book would be about. I was not figuring on reading about all the other things that went on in his life. I was absolutely shocked. I couldn't believe how screwed up he became. What I did realize was that "but for the grace of God go I", for as terrible as I found everything he did, I had lived a similar life many years ago while still leading a mildly Christian life. So I can't necessarily judge him. BUT, unlike many of you here--I do not feel that he had much remorse except as he figured was needed to get himself accepted back into the Christian music world. A regular, unreligious, unsaved person on drugs goes no where, and alone. But with the help of one's church, or in his case the music world, he can pull himself back up. He was fortunate there were people that aided him and cared. Yes, he was very fortunate. And he came back and I wish him well. But, in reading this book I just felt as if he KNEW better than to get mixed up so deeply in drugs (time after time, after time no less), the shacking up with various women, the nightclubs and strip joints, the alcohol, divorce, etc., etc., and he just seemed to allow it to take over his life completely and it shocked me. But as he admitted he wasn't very grounded in his Christianity, he didn't read the Bible, he didn't pray and he never, ever seemed in the book to find any consolation through the Scriptures or prayer. He seemed to relish the hedonistic lifestyle. He seemed to enjoy discussing it and flaunting it. Furthermore, that he still performed and did his TV programs as a Christian while on drugs. He was just SO screwed up. Hopefully he can buckle down now and lead a more exemplary Christian life. I've read many books about people who led a horrible, terrible life and then found Christianity. This book was kind of the opposite. I've never read a book about a Christian who 'backslid' and did such awful things. Yes, it is a book about God's mercy and forgiveness, but like another reviewer said, it's just not a very convincing book that I imagine would affect anybody else's life to change, but we can only hope so. And no photos! Umphh. I don't like big, expensive hardbound books with no photos!

5 out of 5 stars A testimony of God's grace and mercy.   March 7, 2008

This is a amazing book about God's mercy and grace. I was touched by Michael English's transparency. Michael's book proves that God is a forgiving God and there is nothing that we can do that God won't forgive us for if we sincerely ask for forgiveness and truly repent and turn away from our sins.

I love this book. It is not "preachy". Very honest. I have always loved Michael English and his music, so am very happy that he has gotten his life and career back. If you know anyone who has struggled with addiction, they will enjoy this book.

5 out of 5 stars So glad there is grace, and what happened to the other person?   January 30, 2008

I am so grateful to hear the story of Michael English told... and best of all by him. I remember the "scandal"... I remember thinking "wow, what about grace?" And I always remember thinking what about the other person involved (Marabeth Jordan)? But no one told her story. She is still (evidently) hidden away. I hope it is by her choice and that she is as well and as loved as Michael! Love covers all!
