It's sensational! October 8, 2008 I always loved this movie. The first time I saw it I was around 16 years-old, living in Brazil and took my mother to see it. I was impressed with the way the story was told. I loved Ted Neeley and Carl Anderson immediately. Then I came to New York and bought the LP of the film and listened all the time. Then moved to U.S.A. and here, in Denver, they announced the play and I went - and I finally saw Ted Neeley and Carl Anderson on the stage - I'll never forget! I bought the VHS and I was in heaven. Then I bought the DVD and was more than happy. And, finally, I bought this Special Edition and already lost the count how many times I saw it. The feature commentary with director Norman Jewison and Ted Neeley is unbelievable and they call the attention of the viewer for details, explain the scenes and the way they were done -it's incredible! I'm now completely happy because now I know so much about the making of the film, the actors, the director and I can continue to see my movie with much more pleasure.
Jesus Christ, Superstar October 3, 2008 Jesus Christ Superstar (Special Edition)
I bought this with trepidation given its seeming potential for blasphemous treatment of a sacred topic. Nonetheless, though the story is slightly off-center, it was not offensive and some parts are even humorous in a non-blasphemous manner.
Jesus Christ Super Star September 18, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I went with the original movie with Ted Neeley because I find each remake loses something in the translation. It was a very powerful and emotional movie. Ted NeeleyWAS AN INTERESTING CHOICE TO PLAY Jesus he was very convincing AND REALISTIC. I felt the scene in the temple was a little over done, although poinient. THERE WERE OTHER SCENES THAT COULD HAVE BEEN DRAMATIZED A LITTLE MORE THEY SEEMED TO LOSE their significants because they were so short they were almost overlooked. The mix of "old" and "new" example the desert with the jetfighters flying over made an excellent demonstration of how prevelent the bible and the story of Jesus still is today.
What's the buzz..... August 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
What's the buzz? Tell me whats a happening. A 1970's totally classic and dramatic with catchy toons. A different way of looking at the story of Christ for anyone. It's a must for all musical lovers.
Superstar review July 26, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have been a fan of this musical and movie for a very long time. I was very pleased to find it at a very good price. In spite of what some people say,Ted Neely did a fine job of portraying Jesus. Carl Anderson as Judas and Yvonne Elliman as Mary were wonderful in their supporting roles.Yvonne's vocal had the feeling of wonder and pain in her uncertainty. Overall a very good experience.
