I teach scripture and I like the way this film is presented. I often show this film when to my classes when I'm teaching on the journeys of St. Paul. It's fairly accurate and entertaining to watch. I would definitely recommend it.
Poorly made March 24, 2008 1 out of 6 found this review helpful
I stopped watching this movie after 15 min. All they do is argue & yell at one another. Apostles back days were filled with the Holy Spirit not filled with anger & range as portraied in this movie. Poorly made! I don't recommend getting this version.
Inaccurate, misleading March 19, 2008 1 out of 9 found this review helpful
Historically inaccurate, Biblically inaccurate, doctrinally inaccurate, and wooden acting to boot. Shows the Churh in total disarray, bickering amongst the Apostles, absolutely no credence to the healing, to the miracles, nor to the leading of YHWH in the lives of the Church leaders. Very disappointing.
another must-see March 3, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Anthony Hopkins (Silence of the Lambs, etc) is a great actor, and this performance is no exception. Many films about this popular bible story, but this is the most moving that I've seen.
A Masterful portrayal of the men of the early church!!!!!! February 28, 2008 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Forget the fact that this is considered a "B" picture. Forget the fact that it came out in '81. Matter of fact, if you've heard anything negative about this fantastic movie, forget that too!!! These 2 actors, especially Hopkins, are absolutely wonderful in this movie about the early church & its martyrs. And the music: keep a box of kleenex near you, especially at the end. Warning: the water's gonna flow. Hint: when Peter is taken away, turn the volume UP. (Foxworth is great here, just great.) This movie, for any flaws the experts will say it might have/has, will make you feel proud you're a Christian. It will educate you, on a gut/feeling level, about the cost these men paid to be loyal to their Lord. If you are a Christian or wanting to learn more about the apostles or the early church, treat yourself to the "B" movie....ah.....B stands for beautifully & wonderfully architected. You're gonna FEEL it.
