2 out of 5 stars Wha Wha?   March 14, 2008

Before you look at the two stars I gave and you are a christian, I personally believe jesus was who he was and that is that, but Lee Strobel does not and I mean DOES NOT give the other side a chance to state what they believe, instead he takes the "The God who wasn't there" approach and interviews people on the street as the opposition; then he goes to people he knows that are Christians to make christ's case. It was disappointing. It would have been better had he put people who didn't believe in christ and that were also reputable people. I hate to say it but it wasn't very good.

1 out of 5 stars Optimistically Disappointed   February 27, 2008

I watched this, with what turned out to be, docupropaganda, with initial optimism truly hoping for an "investigative" approach into the subject matter of "Christ." However, I could only conclude that the entire objective here was that of an opportunistic propaganda. I was very disappointed in this piece of work attempting to be passed off as, and to the unsuspecting purchaser, as a real investigation approach into the existence of CHRIST. It evidentially became clear that this project had absolutely nothing to do with investigative reporting. I suppose I should have first taken a look at just who the producers were - La Mirada films, to really know what this piece would no doubt be about.

This was nothing more than an opportunity for the newly converted to "spread the word" and to somehow depict Mr. Strobel's born again belief basis as that of investigative proof. One might even theorize that what this piece originated via Lee's wife demanding that Lee 'believe or else' . . . it's that pathetic. If you're looking for real evidentiary proof and/or investigative reporting into this subject matter, see - ZEITGEIST THE MOVIE where Lee might want to consider and re-think just exactly what an investigative-journalistic approach entails!

1 out of 5 stars intellectually deceptive   February 23, 2008

Strobel utterly failed in what he set out to do. He did not objectively examine the case for Christ. His evidence is thoroughly one-sided. He failed to look at all sides of the issues. He was not a good journalist. He found scholars who told him what he wanted to hear and ignored any voices on the other side.

To take just one example, there are many scholars (and Christians) who do not believe Matthew, Mark, Luke and John wrote the four gospels. There are good reasons for their skepticism. Yet Strobel presents the traditional viewpoint as if it were objective fact. This occurs again and again in the film.

I rejoice that Strobel found the Lord through this journalistic exercise. His testimony is a powerful one.

Yet, the basic premise of the DVD is flawed. God is not known by logic and objectivity, but by the spirit's power. Rational arguments can be made all day long, but God has made foolish the wisdom of this world. (1 Cor. 1:18-25). Nicodemus came to Jesus with logic, Jesus answered with metaphor (John 3). In this post-modern world, there is no such thing as one objective truth.

Great addition to your Christian book collection. Long story short, two thumbs up! Great gift idea.

5 out of 5 stars One of the BEST witnessing tools EVER!   February 15, 2008

Kudos to Lee Stobel for making this into a DVD. I had read the book and loved it, but putting this information on DVD, makes this a powerful witnessing tool. This will reach many people that would not otherwise sit and read the book. I first rented it from my local Blockbuster, and watched it twice. I then looked for it on Amazon and ordered my own. I shared it with a couple friends, and ended up ordering 12 more to give to ladies in my Bible study group. I love way he presented the facts, and the information he used to back it up. I thank God for leading Lee Strobel to the truth, and for using him to reach millions of people.
