3 out of 5 stars Ok Album   June 11, 2008

Well I gave this album a good listen and it has a few songs that are really good. The best song in my opinion is "God With Us" it is awesome, however, this album does not have enough rock feel to it like the coming up to breathe album had, I miss the heavy electric guitar like in the awesome mini solo near the end of "Something About You" on the previous album I loved that and they need more of that in their songs. Also, I dont like the sound like its an orchestra at the beginning of some songs.

Overall it was a decent album, but apart from a few songs the album just seemed thrown together and it didnt seem like the group put as much effort into these songs.

5 out of 5 stars One of Those Albums   June 7, 2008

When I hear a song by an artist or group and like it, I tell myself that there's a good chance I'll like more from this person or group. After hearing "God With Us" a number of times I thought I would download this album, knowing I've liked these guys before. After listening one or two times to the entire thing, it became quickly one of my favorite Christian set of songs I've ever experienced (I say this not as a seasoned music critic, just a guy who loves good songs). Literally I love every song here! I can't say that with all the albums I have, who can? From "God With Us" reminding us down here that there's One closer than the air in our lungs to "Almost Home" giving us a glimpse into the future when tears are wiped away at the site of the King and reunited with those we love to "You Reign" telling us through it all Jesus sits on His throne, these songs give life to the walk we call the human journey with others and our Companion. May they continue to be inspired and spread the incredibly Good News of Jesus, His coming and our hope.

4 out of 5 stars Great Christian music!   May 24, 2008
I've just recently "found" this contemporary Christian music and it's all I listen to now. My kids love it too. Don't have to worry about questionable lyrics. This disc has a great mix of songs. Definitely recommend it!

I feel Mercy Me need to write more christian songs more contemporay christian songs with with out the rock sound to them. I think they,d be better off useing a combination of Accoustic, electric guitars, Piano,Saxphone, trumpet,& some base guitar, chimes in thwere next CD for 09. Id say wait til the next cd after this one before you buy anymore of there music.

3 out of 5 stars Awakening Within   May 11, 2008

Bands and artists that have been around for a while with five or more albums, and numerous top singles under their belts, seem to dumb down from one record to the next. So, when I was in the mood to try something new to listen to, somehow I picked up MercyMe's latest album All That Is Within Me. I didn't expect much from these guys. But as I began to listen, I realized I was wrong. Let me sum it up in two words.

    Uplifting rockabilly.

If those two words truly go together.

This being the sixth studio album from the pop/rock group, they've strengthened what makes them so great.

The track "Goodbye Ordinary" starts the record off with a powerful rock anthem that is sure to please fans, but they don't stop there. The next song "Time Has Come" beats up the tempo as it shows off the band's edge to rock. "I Know" is a song that professes faith in God through love.

The first radio single off this album "God With Us" is torn from the same cloth as previous singles and made to become a lasting one. The two songs "Sanctified" and "You Reign" are simple titled songs with deep meaning and inspirational moods. One of the most outstanding tracks comes next with "Grace Tells Another Story". Bart Millard's vocals display conviction and morality, creating a beautiful ballad about God's grace. The song "Alright" reminded me (if I had lived in the 70's) of a song that could have been done by the group Steve Miller Band. Rounding out All That Is Within Me are the sweet moving tracks "My Heart Will Fly" and "Finally Home" that each touch on love and, what seems to be a theme in MercyMe's music, our journey toward heaven.

MercyMe has come a long way since the astronomical hit "I Can Only Imagine". Instead of being a one hit wonder band, they showed the Christian music scene that they can hold their own. In this album no barriers are broken or new avenues explored, but it's another solid recording these guys can hold high. Whether or not I wanted to listen to this album, pickers can't be choosers, and I am sure glad I did.
