bordering on the subliminal December 13, 1998 An amazing adaptation of an amazing musical. Carl Anderson (Judas Iscariot) carries the show, displaying attacking 'hardedge' but soulful lyrics..... could not have been done any better!another one for Mr Jewison (thomas crown-the best). thank you wayne
Rompe los esquemas religiosos December 3, 1998 El rol de Magdalena junto a Jesus cristo rompe los patrones de comportamiento establecidos por la religiosidad
Too bad I can't rate this higher than 10 - Incredible movie! June 5, 1998 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This movie and soundtrack have had such a profound impact on my life. Its the story of Jesus' last days on earth, but more from the point of view of Judas. We get to see how Judas really felt like he was doing the right thing. He felt that Jesus was getting out of control and probably thought he could actually save Jesus from those that wanted to destroy Him. This is contrary to the usual notion that Judas was a despicable betrayer. Rather, he is portrayed as a concerned and loving friend who was possibly just misguided.Another important aspect of this story is to show that Jesus, (while being the Son of God) was still a human Man. He had the same problems and emotions that all human beings must face, yet He conquered temptation and sin. This helped me to be able to better understand what He must have gone through. The pain, suffering, denial, torture, betrayal, and persecution that each and every one of us are responsible for inflicting upon Him. How incredible His Grace is, to still welcome us into His Kingdom after such torment and heartache. We truly are not worthy, yet He Loves us anyway. He allowed Himself to be destroyed so that we may have eternal Life. I feel this was captured very well in "Jesus Christ Superstar". This movie sparked such intrigue and desire for me to begin studying Christ and the Bible. Also, to really think about things for myself without just having some religious leader tell me what to believe and to take it on face value without any understanding of the Word. There are great lyrics from Tim Rice and the best music from Andrew Lloyd Webber. Ted Neely (plays Jesus) and Carl Anderson (as Judas) have two of the greatest voices I've ever heard. I don't see how anyone could be disappointed with this movie. END
