Touching interpretation of Jesus May 15, 2006 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
I loved this film. I am giving it four stars because more emphasis could have been put upon the resurrection scenes. How refreshing to see Jesus portrayed as human with the same feelings and needs that we all experience, yet also divine, with the insights of the Almighty. I was touched by the scene where he grieves for his earthly father, Joseph - Jesus truly understands how we feel when someone we love dies! This interpretation of Jesus' life intended to emphasize his humanity and it did so beautifully. Watch this movie and glean from it some fresh insights into Jesus' life.
This is NOT Jesus!! May 4, 2006 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
This movie is a Hollywood attempt at making their own "Jesus". As I watched this film, I strongly felt that it was to mock who He was and IS, and also to mock Christians of the Saviour that we love and adore so very much. The only reason I gave this movie a single star rating is because there is no steaming turd symbol to choose from. If the way that Jesus was portrayed in this film was a true representation of the real Jesus, then I would be ashamed, saddened and worried about what type of Lord I have given my life to. For example, in the scene where Joseph dies...they portray Jesus shouting at God to "REVIVE HIM!!!!!" with anger and hopelessness in his voice. The scene when Mary reminds him how he brought a bird back to life as a child and he didn't understand how or why he was able to do it reminded me of Clark Kent lifting the tractor up to save his father in 1978's "Superman"....also not knowing how or why he could do that. "Jesus" has the son of God acting like a childish teenager dancing with some women at night, holding a drink and 'waving his hands in the air like he just don't care'....while his disiples stand off to the side grumbling with disaproval, as if to show that they were more prepared than Jesus for not taking his future travel with them more serious. Another scene has Jesus walking down a path with his disiples and He seems to play a stupid game of Tag with the one walking closest to him. I have nothing against Jeremy Sisto as an actor, but He just did a terrible representation of who the Lord is, and how He conducted Himself while He walked this earth as God in Human flesh. He just gives Jesus a conceited, arrogant personality who suddenly turns serious at times when it is too late. Like a scene where Jesus is being disrespectful to a few Roman soldiers with a grim smirk, when suddenly one of them gets stabbed and dies, Jesus suddenly shows care as he runs up to the body sobbing. And when I watched as Jeremy Sisto walked on water at night during a storm approaching his disiples on a small boat....only to stop the storm dead quiet by holding out his hands with a look on the actors face that I can only describe as a prideful "look what I can do!" expression was almost enough to make me decorate the floor with my lunch. If you choose to watch this movie, just do not take to heart and believe that Jesus acted this way. A true depiction of Jesus was portrayed beautifully by Jim Caviezel in Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ". Watch that film instead....and embrace what I believe is a very close impersonalization of the wonderful charactor that Jesus Christ shines with.
Jesus was 100% MAN as well as God April 26, 2006 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I absolutely adore this film because it shows exactly how human our Lord was. He had emotions, He had fun, He laughed, He cried, He loved, He felt fear. Too many films portray Him as a moving statue who spoke with no feeling, had no sense of humor, and was rather unlikable.
This movie helps me understand better exactly who He was, by helping me identify with His humanness AND his deity.
good visuals, sketchy insides March 23, 2006 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The movie is a good visual representation of some the accounts of Jesus, but also tends to insert many extra-canonical thoughts and ideas.

As a student of the Scriptures I believe that this movie does a very good job or portraying the story of Jesus. All of the characters were portrayed very well and anyone watching the movie should walk away with a better understanding of both Jesus' human side and his divine side. I would highly recommend it to anyone of any age.
