Excellent resource October 25, 2008 I first came across Martha Hickman's Healing After Loss after my late husband died.It was one of the most helpful things I read at that time. In my work as a hospital chaplain I have given copies to several people who have experienced the death of a family member, and many have found it to be a great blessing.
Comforting, and thought-proviking October 21, 2008 The author has managed to combine comforting and validating words, as well as pointing out little things in every day life from which to find the strength to put one foot in front of the other. This is the first book I've read which has really helped since my sister died unexpectedly one year ago. My grief counselor recommended the book, and not only am I grateful, but I will pass this on to others I know who are hurting.
For Strength and Courage October 7, 2008
This little book is an absolute Godsend after the death of a loved one, in my case, a spouse. Each day's short reading is about all one can process in the initial phase of grieving. I read from it every morning before starting the day's activities and, almost every day, it seems to be speaking to me! The author truly "hits the nail on the head."
Healing After Loss October 6, 2008 This is the best book for one who has lost someone that I have ever read!! It was given to me after my husband died, and I have been giving it to others ever since!! It's a daily reading, and practically always hits you between the eyes!!
Review for Healing after loss October 2, 2008 Someone gave me this book after I lost my 13 year old to cancer. What I love about this book is each page gives you something to think about or ponder. As you read each page, you will either be moved by what is said, or not. If it resonates with you, you can stop and ponder what has been said. If one particular page is meaningless, you just continue to read on until something else hits home with you.
It is hard to concentrate when you are grieving, so having a page a day to read and think about is a very good place to start. ....I have purchased this book several times now for other bereaved parents and for a friend who lost her husband... another who lost a sister....I highly recommend it!
