New American bible reader's addition June 13, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This was a beautifully bound Bible. I gave it as a gift to a high school graduating granddaughter.
About the binding ... March 26, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is an excellent bible, well bound, smith-sewn, but it is not leather bound as the amazon description states (as at 26-March-2008). It is in fact "Pacific Duvelle" bound, which is a synthetic binding that feels fairly good in the hand.
This review relates to ISBN 0195289048
PS: after I wrote this review I submitted a request to amazon.come to change the description of the binding from "Leather" to "imitation leather" and Amazon.com agreed to make the change. So now anybody purchasing the volume will know what they are getting. I am impressed with Amazon's willingness to make such changes.
Beautiful New American Bible February 26, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
One will notice the quality of this Bible the moment they take it out of its packaging. The beautiful genuine leather binding, the gilt pages, the fine paper... everything says this is a Bible that you will enjoy using. It will also last beyond a few years of use, and could probably be passed on to your children. The translation is the well know New American Bible. A huge advantage with this Bible is that all of the foot notes and references are placed in the back of each book of the Scriptures leading to a less distracted reading of the actual text. Oxford Press came up with a good idea there. Over all one of the best Bible purchases I've ever made.
Amazing Author(s) lol! January 20, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Reviewing the content aside the outside of this Bible is in a elegant yet sturdy leather binding. It's abit more modern then the usual pitch black cover of a bible, with nice shades of blue. It's made for catholics (Nicene creed/ Our Father and more prayers inside) but any Christian denomination will find it works just fine.
Great Bible for reading March 26, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This Bible is in a wonderful leather cover with a good matte texture. Unlike many Bibles I've seen, the textual interpretation notes are collected at the end of each book. I prefer this, as I tend to get distracted by these notes when I'm reading. The lectionary at the end is useful for previewing the readings that will be proclaimed at Mass. The sides of the pages bear index tabs, but the Catholic books (e.g., Wisdom, Sirach) are not included on the tabs (the books are included in the Bible, but you'll have to remember their locations in the Old Testament).
The one caveat with this Bible is that the pages are quite thin - I end up turning the pages very carefully. The thin pages make for a very compact Bible - only about 1-1/4" thick including the cover.
