Excellent Bible August 29, 2008 This is one of my favorite bibles. I love the layout and easy to read translation but more importantly the articles are amazing. Great pictures of ancient biblical discoveries. I highly recommend for anyone who is seeking to grasp a greater understanding of biblical history through archeology or apologetics. Could be used for either.
A useful Bible May 2, 2008 Archaeological Study Bible: New International Version, Dark Chocolate/Toffee, Italian Duo-tone, Personal Size This is a very catchy Bible. Well illustrated with photographs of Bible lands and archaeological sites, the support text illuminates and supports the NIV translation. A bit lighter and smaller than the hardback edition, and lacking the CD ROM NIV application, this book is easier to hold and read. I like it a lot.
Totally satisfied with my purchase. October 30, 2007 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
This is a great Bible for anyone who likes historical context but doesn't have the education, resources, or time to go digging. Complaints that others made turned out not to be a big deal for me. The font size is just fine, as is the page thickness. The pages were stuck together a bit because of the gold on the outside, but they seem perfectly sturdy. I like this "personal size" as well. Love the maps and references in the back... everything.
I especially like the almost academic distance of the notes. There is a clear slant towards the Bible being the word of God, and thus reliable and accurate, but the notes do not shy from pointing out controversies or apparent contradictions. Rather than drawing conclusions, they simply lay out the facts. I find this refreshing.
