1 out of 5 stars I ordered this from River City Books. They sent me one that is NOT CATHOLIC. They claim I did not order a Catholic version!!!   October 1, 2007

I ordered the Catholic version of The Way Bible. They (River City Books) sent me a non-Catholic Bible that smelled like a cigar festival then told me the book I ordered here was not the Catholic Living Bible (The Way); they tried to tell me I ordered the non-Catholic version. The picture Amazon shows is of the Catholic Living Bible The Way; the reviews are all for the Catholic version too. So I wasted time and money plus the frustration of getting a really nasty smelling and looking item. If you want to be sure to get the Catholic version, order it NEW and make sure the ISBN NUMBERS MATCH the item you want also; otherwise you may get a surprise too.

5 out of 5 stars Helpful for students in parochial schools and others   May 6, 2007
This Bible is written in plain english, which makes it much easier for those studying the Bible in any way can read in their language what is said in the Bible. I bought this for my grandson (age 15) when he told me that the Bible speaks like "Yoda". This made it much easier for him to understand what the Biblical language said to him, but in a format he understands.

4 out of 5 stars Great for youth groups!   March 18, 2006

Back when I was junior in High School at a Jesuit School, this was given to us as our Bible. Being young at the time, I just set it aside. I recently found it on my bookshelf and I do have to say its a great edition for the youth.

I like the reading plan and the commentaries as part of the forward as well as each book.

And, there are some funny paraphrases, like: "John's disciples and the Jewish leaders sometimes fasted, that is, went without food as part of their religion."

4 out of 5 stars A Good Read, But is it Really the Bible?   June 18, 2005

This is a paraphrase translation in very modern American English. Some of the dialogue is laughable and some of the paraphrases sound pretty fishy when compared with more literal translations. But as long as this isn't the only Bible you read, I can give it a mild recommendation.

5 out of 5 stars Easy to read and faithful to the Catholic Church   January 12, 2000

I was given this Bible as a Christmas gift, and my initial reaction to a Bible written in contemporary English was one of skepticism. I thought that this would surely be a watered-down version of Sacred Scriptures that compromises the true meaning of God's Word for the sake of making it easy to read. After spending some time with this Bible, I am pleased to say that I was wrong. It is written in easy to read contemporary English, but still manages to convey the truth of God's Word in a way that is consistent with Catholic faith and morals. One thing I didn't like is that the deuterocanonical books were placed in a separate section at the end rather than in their traditional order among the other books. Still, I think this Bible is worth buying for anyone who wants a very readable version of Sacred Scripture that is faithful to the Catholic Church.
