Yes, we need Bibles like these.... March 20, 2008 if this is the way we can "get" people to "come" to church, I think it is great! If there was not Purpose Driven Life I would "not" be in church today after 25 years of not going because of the hypocrites I had seen. That book "explained" why they will always be in churches and why it is a good place to learn to "live" with these types of people.
I see this magazine in the same way. It is a stepping stone to get those who have not been "in" the Bible for many many years or have never been in it, to see God's word in their way. This is not what a church will sit and preach from, by any means, but it is a wonderful "start" on the road to understanding the Bible.
Just like I ave never read any other Purpose books, but now study the Bible; these people can do the same and have something to share with others that is in the terms of their world. Jesus told parables to teach. . . What is the difference?
This Will Make You Read Scripture...which is good, right? June 18, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is one Bible that will have the moderns squaring off against the traditionalists. I find it peculiar that when a Bible is made to be relevant, exciting and informative, it is somehow not good. In other words, we need not all the side info. If that's the case we don't need study Bibles or other extra-Biblical material that might corrupt the text. As far as the NVC, it's a simple, straight forward and very understandable version of God's Word. The question is, why can't we move into the 21st century and atleast TRY to understand God's Word clearly? This is a fun, exciting and excellent way to get into God's Truth. As for the cover, magazines were meant to be intriguing and inviting. The sexcess headline leads to informative articles based on what men struggle with each day. Heaven forbid, the Bible be relevant and informative on "controversial issues". Thanks Nelson, great job. I got my wife Becoming 2.
ALIGN New Testament "Bible-zine" May 7, 2007 I only wish this was available in the Old Testament as well. This is great! My wife has BECOMING, which is the one for women.
An Enjoyable Presentation June 26, 2006 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This Bible was a great buy. Although it is impractical for a Bible Study, or for reference during Church it is a wonderful presentation for casual reading and reading while on commute.
Its magazine presentation allows me and those who are watching me to appreciate the simplicity and accessibility of the gospel. It reminds me that the Word of God isn't meant to be held behind ornate granite walls and stain glassed windows, but to be spoken on the street and shared with the masses. I hope that this presentation will be used by more Christians and new seekers to dispel the myth of a stuffy church, and a repressive Christ. -HisAmbassador.com
Disgusting! January 7, 2006 5 out of 23 found this review helpful
You have got to be kidding me! This Bible publisher has sunk to a new low. Do we really need a Bible (and I really don't want to call it a Bible) that looks like a cheap rip off of those nasty magazines at the grocery counter? I can hardly take my kids through the check out line without making them look away, or turning the magazines around so they can't see them. Now we want to use the same gimmick to try and sell the Bible? And why did they have to put the word SEX on the cover in bold letters? Oh wait, I forgot. Sex sells...apparently it sells Bibles too. Do you think Jesus would buy this Biblezine? Give me a break. He said to "come out from among them, and be ye separate". Not "use the world's gimmicks to try and sneak My Word into popular culture". The Bible should influence culture, culture should not influence the Bible.
Unfortunately, this Biblezine will probably sell well. (BTW, this publisher also publishes the teen Biblezine's Revolve, and Refuel). There are many Christians out there today that do not live a separated life, who don't stand for anything, and who haven't the slightest idea what the Bible says anyway. They will buy this Bible, and like everything else faddish, they will use it for a time, and then it will go by the wayside. Then they will wait for something new to reenergize their spiritual life.
One other thing: We have too many English translations of the Bible. It is no wonder people are confused. By my last count, we have over 50 English translations. How does this help anyone? All this does is breed confusion, and God is not the author of confusion. If God is not the author of confusion, then who is? Think about it. My guess is that the only reason we have so many translations is to make money, and this Biblezine is just one more way to make some cash. Why do Bibles cost money anyway? Didn't God give us His Word for free? I think that we will have to answer for that. He gave us a free gift, and we turn right around and slap a worldy, irreverent cover on it and sell it. Maybe the reason that we are not reaching the world with the Gospel, is because we are too busy making money off of it.
Let me help you with something. Get you a good KJV, read it, and get rid of these other gimmicks, and you will see your spiritual life grow.
