5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Product   April 24, 2008

This is absolutely the most wonderful set of CD's that you could ever own. The quality is superb. The combination of the voices and music is outstanding, which all bring the New Testament to life. I have purchased 2 sets and plan to order some more. G Dorsey, Texas

    5 out of 5 stars It's like radio theatre   April 21, 2008

This is more than an audio Bible. This is like radio theatre.
I love these CDs! It makes listening to the New Testament even more interesting. It's done in New King James version and it follows the text perfectly. It really helps to hear all the different voices for each part, so that you can understand certain events in the Bible better.
The CDs come in a handy zipper pouch for easy transporting. I can listen to them in the car or on the computer or on any cd player. Each chapter is on a track so you can advance or forward to a specific chapter in the Bible if needed.
I am hoping they are going to create an Old Testament version as well!

3 out of 5 stars Good production, but Caviezel is out of his league   April 18, 2008

I am a Christian and Bible scholar who collects audio Bibles.

The most important textual readings in this production are delivered by its single weakest performer, James Caviezel. I assume the producers banked on star power from The Passion when they chose Jim Caviezel to read for Jesus. But his delivery in The Word of Promise is, in my opinion, almost a complete failure. His tone is inappropriate throughout most of the four Gospels. He often sounds petulant, which is a particularly inappropriate tone for Christ. It sounds as though Caviezel is unrehearsed, as though he just jumps into the text and reads it impromptu. He ruins some of the passages and fails to carry many others. Surrounded by such veteran and accomplished voice talent who deliver such excellent performances in this production, Caviezel seems to be out of his league. Because of Caviezel's poor reading the rendering of the Gospels is disappointing in The Word of Promise. But from Acts forward the listening experience is thoroughly rewarding.

There is an unfortunate phrase in the music. It is repeated again and again throughout the production. Around Acts 4, it suddenly dawned on me that this exact short musical phrase is a major motif in The Godfather II movie, and thereafter I couldn't help thinking about that movie whenever the phrase turned up in The Word. I would call that distracting!

I would recommend this audio Bible for the high technical quality and imaginative devices, and also for the excellence of most of the voice talent. Unfortunately, and surprisingly, the producers selected an inexperienced and unprepared actor for the most important role.

5 out of 5 stars Compelling words   April 7, 2008

Most people have said, "I wish I could read the bible cover to cover." Many have tried with limited success. A few who have spoken to me, when I have spoken at appearances. Some have suggested there should be a bible on audio.

There have been versions of the New Testament brought onto the audio format with such celebrities like Gregory Peck, Pat Boone, James Earl Jones and Johnny Cash. These people have done great narrating efforts in speaking of the gospels. Moreover, many who have been intriguing with these audio productions. A few have been honest and said these audios tended to drone on with one vocal talent. No matter how good he is in his rendition of the testament.

A few years ago, Carl Amari from Falcon Pictures group brought to the spoken word format, audio adaptions in a radio theater style of The Twilight Zone episodes. Before I received this production, I knew Carl was involved and knew this set was a project of quality.

And it is. The talent in front and behind the microphone showcases a excellence audio showcase that will not bore, even the casual listener. Jim Caviezel, who portrayed Jesus in Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ, does the vocal honors as Jesus. His vocals alone holds this project together . His gentle timbers shows a kind and a gentle man who was also a god of men.

The rest of the major cast is an A list of film and movie actors. Most are experts in audio books or audio theater. Such talents like Lou Diamond Phillips (Mark), John Heard (Matthew), John Schneider (James), Terence Stamp (The voice of God), Stacy Keach (Paul). Louis Gossett jr (John), Marisa Tomei (Mary Magdelene) and Luke Perry (Judas) make this audio presentation more of an event than just simple piece of spoken word. There are over 100 voice parts in this production, if you can not tell as well.

One would wonder, would I put the bible in a higher regard than a simple audio? I say yes and this bible delivers both as education and entertainment. The words are compelling. The actors know their craft and bring this testament to a life it has never known before on an audio format

It is a gift that anyone can enjoy with friends and family. It inspires. in its zealousness of recanting the story of Christ. It is a comfort that in a CD format this can be listened to anywhere.

So why aren't you listening to this yet?
