5 out of 5 stars Get This One!   May 29, 2008

After looking at several bibles in Kindle's Store, this one stood out for its readability and faithfulness to the ancient and recent manuscripts. There are abundant footnotes that are easily accessed. Additionally, the individual chapters can easily be accessed by using the Search feature; e.g. "5 Isaiah" for Isaiah, the fifth chapter. Check it out!

    5 out of 5 stars Pleasantly Surprise !   June 27, 2007
This was the first time I had gone online and ordered anything. The book was for my son-in-law in jail. He really likes the bible alot, since he would not be given a bible. It got to him BEFORE the time mentioned. I am very impressed with your service and plan to order more books & misc. Thank you for your fast, speedy, and accurate service.....

5 out of 5 stars Hip Update of Classic King James Bible   June 6, 2007

I was given a copy of this version of the Bible by my pilgrim pastor. Christiand accepted the Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, as holy scripture. Teachings vary depending on what church you go to. We figured out at my pilgrim church, the pilgrims have earned the right to do whatever they want, as Martin Luther opened the doorway to religious freedom. The pilgrims are the founders of this country and are protected by the government. Sure, it's marketed at really big losers, but gives these same people a chance to be saved and born again and to start their lives over. This is a hip update of the King James Bible, and contains all the same books and chapters, but was translated with post modern age society in mind, not the dated Olde English of the King James, and is a lot easier to read than any other genuine version of the Holy Bible accepted by Christians as the gospel and scripture. I was sent by the Lutherans as an emmisary to a local Catholic church. In Catholic everyone at the mass drinks from the chalice one at a time and are not given a shot of wine like in pilgrim churches. Sure it's made up, but the odds favor us. God bless!

4 out of 5 stars Great for OT, NT Gets Lost In Translation   March 8, 2007

I bought this version, because I've wanted to read the Old Testament (chronologically), but just coudn't seem to make it through the first few chapters of Exodus before I (sadly) lost interest. Now, the Old Testament comes alive for me, and I'm having fun reading the events in a vernacular I can understand.

That being said, some of our favorite verses in the New Testament, and in fact, I've even noticed a couple in my OT reading, get lost in translation, and the beauty and power of the original text gets watered down. For example, Romans 8:28+29

NIV: And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

CEV: We know that God is always at work for the good of everyone who loves him. They are the ones God has chosen for his purpose, and he has always known who his chosen ones would be. He had decided to let them become like his own Son, so that his Son would be the first of many children.

Overall, though, I think this is a great Bible for beginners, for those new to the faith, or for people like me who struggle with cubits, thees, thys and thous. :)
