4 out of 5 stars Good but not Great audio translation of the New testament.   October 22, 2008
I kinda agree with a few other reviews of this product. i hate to give only 4 stars to a positive learning experience of GODS WORD. Overall it is a very good production. My only complaints are these.
1.)Some of the actors chosen are actors not narrators. meaning this. if they are in a movie they can be seen and heard, live out the parts. when you only get audio, most of these actors do not have strong enough voices to carry their parts.
2.)There are no points to tell you where you are in a book. all you get is ex. the narrators says the (book of matthew.) then he say the (book of mark). no chapter or verses are mentioned.
Those 2 are the only things that could of been improved on. i also have purchased the holy bible on cd with john sherberg and james earl jones. this is my favorite. there are some audio mistakes. but both gentlemen have strong narrative voices and there are chapter marks to tell you where you are listening at in each book. please read my other reviews on products i have purchased. and may GOD bless you. declores. as of november 2008, i just finished listening to this set. the book of revelation is worth the price alone of this set. i had to go back and listen to revelation again. i hope they do the book of daniel and some other prophets in the future. stacey keach as john, michael york as the narrator ernie hudson as peter and louis gossett jr as john are the best voices on the set. and louis gossett really steals the show with the dramanization in revelation.

3 out of 5 stars Read the Bible yourself   October 21, 2008

With all the cast of actors, music, and sound effects I was expecting to be blown away. Instead, I am finding that the choice of actors to play certain parts just does not seem to be a good match. When they speak you say to yourself, that is not how I would have imagined John the Baptist. Also, I don't feel the actors were putting a lot of effort into the performance. I found myself constantly comparing the performances in this audio production to films like Jesus of Nazareth and The 10 Commandments, no comparison. It was a good attempt, but I would suggest that you read the Bible on your own; you will get more out of it.

5 out of 5 stars The New Testament Comes to Life   October 13, 2008

As a conservative Christian layman, I have found this breathes new life into the Scriptures. I was looking for the New Testament on CD and found this dramatic reading of the NKJV. What can I say? Just a reading of the cover will tell you of the great talents involved in this wonderful effort. I came away after listening to the entire set feeling as if I had watched an epic motion picture (and you can't quit; you are compelled to listen to one book after the other). It is not only a great witnessing tool, it is great for Bible study and entertainment. You will receive a blessing! Highly recommmended. P.S. The Book of Revelation is especially dramatic!

5 out of 5 stars Everyone should have the Word of Promise   October 9, 2008

The Word of Promise is fun to listen to because of the multimedia production which includes numerous voices and sound effects. I am surprised that I haven't seen any media advertisement on this project. If people knew it was available, they would buy it. Great to listen to in the car.

3 out of 5 stars Good but not great   September 29, 2008

I feel kind of guilty for criticizing anything that promotes the Bible but in all honesty it was good & had the cherished King James Version, but it was not great like The Bible Experience. The reason being is the Actors could have put more emotion into their voices esp. Jim who played Jesus. I wonder were most of the actors in The Word of Promise born again Christians and realized the depth of what they were saying. ALot of the actors in the Bible Experience professed Christ as their Lord so they put all they had into their speaking parts. Jim sounded kind of robotic and not as natural, this may have been a carry over from the movie when he did not speak in English so we did not get a good grasp of the how his voice sounded in English (only the visual) in the "Passion of the Christ) which he was great in & should have won an Oscar if Hollywood was not at the time so bias against Christian movies but in any event I expected alot greater passion as would give it a B not an A plus. If any actors read this next time you make a Christian audio put more passion in your voice. This is God we are talking about afterall!
